Schwinn Bicycle Company Limited Warranty Warranty Effective June 1, 1977

Schwinn and Schwinn-Approved bicycles, parts and accessories (Except the EX2 ergoMetric Exerciser) are warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship... no time limit.

Notice:

The user assumes the risk of any personal injuries, damage to or failure of the bicycle and any other losses if Schwinn bicycles are used in any competitive event, including bicycle racing, or in bicycle motorcross, dirt biking or similar activities, or training for such competitive events or activities.

DO NOT USE Schwinn bicycles for stunt riding, ramp, jumping, acrobatics or similar activities, or with motors as power driven vehicles. This Warranty does not cover any personal injuries, damage to or failure of the bicycle or any other losses due to accident, misuse, neglect, abuse, normal wear, improper assembly or improper maintenance.

Free 30-Day Checkup

Each Schwinn Bicycle will be fully assembled by the Authorized Schwinn Dealer at time of purchase, and will be entitled to recieve a free 30-day Checkup by the same Authorized Schwinn Dealer within the first 30 days of operation...such checkup to include free replacement of any parts and accessories found to be defective and free inspection and adjustment of all functional parts and assemblies... but not including any repair due to accident, improper use, neglect, abuse, normal wear, improper assembly or improper maintenance.

As its option, Schwinn will... without charge... either provide a replacement of or repair any Schwinn or Schwinn-Approved part of accessory which is defective under the terms of this warranty. Dealer labor charges in installing replacement parts or accessories are not covered by this warranty after the Free 30-day checkup, except for any labor charges due to replacement of a defective frame within one year of original purchase at retail.

Repair or replacement of defective parts or accessories and those dealer charges specifies above shall be the sole remedy under this warranty, and In, No Event shall Schwinn be liable for incidental or consequential damages. Some States do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incedental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state. See your Authorized Schwinn Dealer for service or replacement under the Schwinn Limited Warranty or write for assistance to the factory:

All Schwinn X-tra Lite Bicycles are technically lightweight models- a name given to bicycles using high pressure narrow tires. In many Schwinn X-tra Lite models, for example, sophisticated steel alloy tubing such as Reynolds 531 permits the use of thinner wall material without sacrificing strength. The tubing is double butted for greater strength. Schwinn X-tra Lite Bicycles- depending on model- offer the discerning cyclist a choice of lightweight lugged frames or the world recognized Schwinn internally lugged hand brazed frame.

Throughout the world a vast selection of gears, hubs, lugs, brakes, cranks and other components are manufactured from extra light alloys for the best possible strength to weight ratios. Selection and incorporation of the proper component mix is an art practiced by Schwinn design engineers. This proper marriage of components result in a smooth operating bicycle that delivers a ride you hardly thought possible.

Schwinn Paramount Bicycles

are the finest example of the cycle builder's art... a proper blend of components, design developments and cycle engineering. All Paramount share the same close attention to quality, materials and workmanship. Differences between individual models reflect intended use (touring, track or road racing) with each bicycle hand built to our exacting specifications.

Frame:

Single models use Reynolds 531 double butted and taper gauge tubing throughout with Campagnolo forged fork ends front and rear. Standard frame sizes ranging from 20" to 26". Made-to-measure sizes at extra cost. Short-coupled design available on 21" to 25" sizes (except P15). Tandem frames are internally reinforced chrome-moly alloy with lugless hand brazed filletted joints.

All current Schwinn colors except full chrome. Single rider model have chrome plated front and rear fork end slots. Head lugs chrome plated at extra cost.

In recent years cyclists around the world have come to realize the advantages of bicycle gearing systems. The proper gear selection allows the average rider to expend as little energy as necessary even though terrain and weather conditions may vary.

Here is a general breakdown of the various gearing system and how they can best applied to your cycling needs.

Coaster Brake...

Single gear bicycles are most comfortably used on level ground for short rides.

Single Speed...

Most comfortably used on level ground for short riders.

3-Speed Hub Gears...

Most comfortably used for short rides on somewhat uneven terrain. Low gear on the 3-speed hub can negotiate moderately hilly terrain.

5-Speed Derailleur Gears...

Cyclist can begin touring moderate distances and negotiate most slopes.

10-Speed Derailleur Gears...

Designed for touring. More sophisticated 10-speed equipment allows rider to travel longer distances with relatively less effort. 10-speed bicycles are meant to negotiate hills without varying the rider's steady cadence.

15-Speed Bicycles...

Alpine gearing, as it is sometimes called, provides a greater selection of intermediate gears cross-country or long distance ... ideal in mountainous areas.

That's no idle boast. For over 80 years than Schwinn family, now in the fourth generation of active management of the company, has taken a direct and personal interest in the craftsmanship and quality of every bicycle bearing the Schwinn name. Innovation after innovation has come from Schwinn designers and engineers constantly striving to create a more perfect bicycle.

Schwinn frames used on most models are electro-forged in a unique process originated by the company. There is no stronger frame made.

Schwinn bicycle finishes are at least three coats deep. Starting with an alkali bath, the frame is then completely immersed in a rust preventative primer solution which is oven-baked on. Fleck preventative primer solution which is oven-baked on. Fleck color finishes recieve an additional bake-on silver undercoating which is followed by a hand sprayed coating and two additional baked-on final color coats.

Schwinn quality plating leads the industry... stands up to all kinds of weather... and retains its integrity even after rigorous testing.

The first step towards proper bicycle fit is selection of the proper frame. Schwinn bicycles come in a wide variety of sizes and most Schwinn lightweights are available with different frame sizes to ensure that the purchaser is able to buy a bicycle with a frame which is neither too large nor too small but just right.

A rider's proper frame size is usually the largest frame which he can comfortably straddle with both of his feet on the ground as in the illustration on left. Women can use the diamond style frame to determine the approximate size of the corresponding ladies' model bicycle. Proper bicyle fit is necessary for the utmost in safety and handling.

Once the proper frame size has been determined, the next step is to adjust the seat to its correct height. The most efficient and comfortable pedaling is accomplished when the rider's leg, while he is seated on bicycle, is not quite fully extended when the ball of the foot is on the pedal. The rider must be seated on the saddle and the pedal MUST be at the bottom position as shown in illustration on the right.

The handlebar stem should be adjusted to the same height as seat or slightly lower than the seat, as shown in the illustrations.

Note: On Schwinn bikes a maximum height marking appears both on the seatpost and handlebar stem.

*Leg length is the distance from cratch to floor while standing in stocking feet. Adjustments both higher and lower than the indicated figures can be made on Schwinn Bicycles. However, these are the recommended figures. Frame size is measured from center of crank to top of painted seat tube.

The Schwinn ergoMetric Exerciser is a stationary bicycle ergometer which permits a closely controlled, measured and repeatable cycling program.

When pedaling, with the resistance control at a specific setting, of which there are 11, energy expenditure remains relatively constant over a wide range of pedal speeds. (50-90 rpm's.) Thus, both the program andt the rider's reaction to the program can be charted. A program chart is part of the console unit which can be used to record the length of time riding, the resistance load, and rpm's.
